Curtis & Gayle

I don't even know where to begin with this. I met Curtis a while back in San Antonio, long before I was even close to being in the photography industry. In fact, I was waiting tables at a small Italian restaurant, going to San Antonio College and thinking I would become a teacher or a nurse or something like that. Curtis is a musician, a trumpet player! He occasionally played at the restaurant I worked at (how we met), and though he's a traveling musician what sticks out in my memory the most is him playing at places along the San Antonio Riverwalk. You could hear his trumpet as you walked by, echoing within the sounds of the river and tourist stirring. So naturally it only made sense for him to get married on Marriage Island surrounded by the water that listened to his music so many nights.

We're old friends, but mostly Facebook friends for the bulk of it, so I hadn't actually seen him in years. In August when Curtis wrote me about shooting his wedding, my first thought was "He's hiring me. I won't take no for an answer" and my next thought was WHEN CAN I MEET HER?! Oh. Wow. Gayle.

Gayle is one of those people that lights up a room. She is simple, but stunning. I met her at our Downtown San Antonio Engagement Session. It took no time at all for me to know she was the one. Just watching them walk together said it all. And if the Engagement Session wasn't enough to show me how much I truly adored her, on the day of the wedding I spent those pre-wedding hours with her. You know those moments where the bride is stressed and obsessed about everything going exactly as planned? Oh wait... Gayle either did a really good job of hiding it OR she goes down in Sleeping Owl history as the most laid back bride.

To say I am happy for them is a big understatement. Curtis has an awesome wife and is a step-dad to a funny, smart, over-the-top amazing girl (but she's a whole other story!). I couldn't ask for anything better for an old friend.
